Student Welfare

At St Bernard’s School, we are committed to the wellbeing of every student. From time to time, young people may need a helping hand, and we want you to know that support is always available. If you’re facing challenges, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the appropriate member of staff. Here’s how we can help:

1. Friendship Issues
If you’re experiencing difficulties with friendships, speak to your Form Tutor in the first instance. They can offer advice and help mediate issues where necessary.

2. Struggling with School Work or Environment
If you’re finding any aspect of school life difficult, whether it’s keeping up with schoolwork, understanding lessons, or managing your time, please talk to your Form Tutor or Head of Year. They can offer guidance or suggest additional resources or support.

3. Emotional Wellbeing
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stressed, or upset and would like someone to talk to, our School Counsellor, Mrs McDougall, is here to listen and provide support.

4. Careers Guidance
If you’re unsure about your future plans, whether it’s college, apprenticeships, or careers, speak to Mr Killip, our Careers Advisor. He can guide you through your options and help you take the next steps.

5. Feeling Unsafe or in Danger
If something in your life feels unsafe, dangerous, or you are worried about your own safety or someone else’s, please talk to any member of staff or speak directly to Mrs Ritchie or Mrs Marshall, our safeguarding leads.

6. Bereavement Support
If you’ve experienced the loss of someone close to you and are struggling to cope, our Chaplain, Nikki Bell, is available to offer support and a listening ear.

7. Bullying Concerns
If you are experiencing or witnessing bullying, speak to your Form Tutor, Head of Year, or a trusted member of staff immediately. We take bullying seriously and will work to resolve the issue quickly and sensitively.

8. Health and Wellbeing
If you have concerns about your physical health, mental health, or general wellbeing, you can approach your Form Tutor, the School Nurse (if available), or the Pastoral Team for advice and support.

9. Special Educational Needs (SEN)
If you feel you are struggling with learning due to additional needs or require extra support, please speak to your Form Tutor or the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator), who will ensure you receive the assistance you need.

10. Family Difficulties
If there are challenges at home, such as family conflict, separation, or financial hardship, we are here to support you. Please speak to your Head of Year or a member of the Pastoral Team.

11. Extra-Curricular Involvement
Sometimes joining a club or activity can help build confidence and form new friendships. Speak to your Head of Year or look at the extra-curricular options available to see how you can get involved.
